Blog #5-Intro Paragraph

Did you know metaphors are used everywhere in today’s society? It’s one of the most distinguished language tools used to help someone understand a topic that they might’ve not before. They are used in literature, social media, medical places, generic conversations, and more. I don’t think many people know how much a metaphor has on a person and how there’s an intelligent significance, based on the lack of exposure to them. Many metaphors can help individuals with different aspects in their life which can help them physically and mentally. It has the ability to change someone’s mindset and the way how we view things. Metaphors are so influential over our thinking, that there’s a possibility it can assist our physical health. A metaphor has a deep significance in the health/medical field. Doctors uses metaphor’s to describe a patient’s diagnosis, treatment, and change their way of thinking. Medical metaphors aren’t aiming to harm someone, but it depends on the person and their health problem. It’s a powerful way of communication, especially in situations with people who have serious illnesses. Metaphors need to be used with caution because someone with a disease, changes their life forever. It’s not an easy subject to talk about with the patient and family members, but it can be used positively to help the person cope with their thoughts and feelings. Although metaphors are just phrases, they have the power to change people’s mind, discover new perspectives to help someone’s physical/metal health, and have a better understanding of circumstances.

  • I really like the use of a question at the beginning to get the reader thinking. It was a good idea to bring up the fact that metaphors effect everyday life not just between doctors and patients.

    1. The idea that metaphors can help people in the medical field. (its a little unclear)
    2. Medical metaphors aren’t aiming to hurt people, they are a powerful way of communication, they need to be used with caution.
    3. I think it’s only covering the medical uses of metaphors, most likely both physical and mental.
    4. I don’t see the stakes, but one could assume that the last sentence could be a stake.
    5. Just because metaphors are just phrases, they can change the ideas and the understandings of things for people.
    6. I think it does answer the prompt, or at least touch upon it. It mentions the uses of metaphors in the medical field, and says they play a large role or they are powerful in the mind and how people understand things.
