Blog #19-They Say/I Say

The chapter I chose from They Say/I say is “Distinguishing What You Say from What They Say” (Chapter 5). This chapter grabbed my attention because in my essay, I need to add my voice in the conversation with the other authors that we talked about. It talks about where to put your own voice where it flows nicely and how important it is for readers to know when you’re expressing your point, separating it from someone else’s point. Gerald Graff states to pay attention to voice markers, which are words in the beginning paragraphs that gives you clues on who’s speaking in the paper. In this chapter, it also gives templates for signaling who is saying what in your own essay. In my essay, I need to revise on how to correctly put my voice and another author’s voice in my paper. I feel like the voices of mine and the authors are kind of scattered and hard to read/understand. I’m going to try seperating my paragraphs depending who’s speaking. I think this would impact my paper positively because it would make it easier for the reader to understand who’s speaking. The essay itself would have a clearer format, along with being easier to understand and read.
