Blog #10-Strawson

While rereading “I am not a Story” by Galan Strawson, I had a different experience reading the second time. The first time reading this essay, I was completely lost with his explanations and quotes that he used throughout the paper. Strawson says, “Consideration of the sequence – the ‘narrative’… might be important for some people in some cases.” This doesn’t go with his points and views, but I do agree with this quote. You don’t have to look at your life within just a story, there’s different aspects to see your life. Another saying he said was, “Life simply never assumes a story-like shape for us. And, neither from a moral point of view should it.” At first when I read this, I didn’t really know what he meant. Now, I see this quote meaning that Strawson is making it seem like thinking that certain way, your life being a story, is the wrong way to see it. He contradicts his points and uses many other people’s quotes to build his points which got confusing. I cleared some of the fog with this essay. I picked some points out that I didn’t realize before, but it was challenging because it was a lengthy paper so it was hard to grasp the actual idea and view that Strawson was trying to get at. I understand most of his view to reference him in my essay.
